THE HISTORY AND STORY BEHIND RAINMAKER’S CREATIVE WORKS AND ART STUDIO.

As I have described in my Artist Statement, I have been a visual artist and writer since childhood. Art has always been my place to go to let my mind run free and give my mental status a much needed break.

Art is a healer in the basic sense. But its wings take the artist on a journey of creation, composition and peace of mind with a place to land safely once the work, whether it be visual or written, is complete.

I write poetry, columns and features for the Sault Star and find myself as an advocate for many issues affecting Indigenous peoples of Canada.

Rainmakers Creative Works and Art Studio has been around since the late 1990’s, but in a very casual way. I have been licensed in Ontario since that time, with most of my business transactions completed at local and regional art shows and exhibitions.

I chose the name Rainmakers Creative Works and Art Studio because I believe rainmakers make things happen. Rainmakers find water with a stick called a dowsing or divining rod.

Water is vital to our survival, while the rain replenishes our lakes and rivers. A rainmaker has an ability to find water and therefore make a difference in someone’s life. They may even save someone’s life.

Throughout my nursing career I was an advocate for my patients, helping them make life saving choices, comforting them through the dying journey, helping them heal from trauma.

I was able to make a difference, like finding water, it brought nourishment and safety. I was a rainmaker of sorts. Hence “Rainmakers Creative Works."

Art cards and paintings were the foundation for exhibitions and sales in the District of Algoma where I live. These are available in my shop now.

But I have worked in leather and embroidery for years, creating one of-a-kind purses, bags, wall hangings and change purses.

These creations will not be available until later in the year, closer to Christmas. 2022 Calendars will be available by October 1 ,2021.

This move to online sales was the product of Corona Virus 2019. For two years I have not participated in a show or sale, so I had to find a way to still get my work out there.

Going to online sales seemed logical, but once covid has subsided and we can get back to our routines, I will continue to attend, exhibit and sell at art shows. Here’s hoping you enjoy browsing the site. Take care and be safe.

THE PRODUCTION CREW.

Christopher Shoust has been instrumental in the creation and product management of my website. He is the website designer and his company, located in Sault Ste. Marie Ontario, is called FROM SCRATCH DESIGN.

His wife Suzanne, who works at AK Graphix here in Sault Ste. Marie, worked from photographic images of my work and produced the professional finished product you will see in my shop.

Christopher holds an Honours Degree in Fine Arts (Cume Laude), as well as a diploma in Journalism and New Media. Suzanne is a graphic designer.

Violet Aubertin, did all the photography of my art and paintings. She was instrumental in planning how to photograph my work to offer the best presentation to you the viewers. We were colleagues at Sault Area Hospital, she in clerical, me, in nursing and retired within months of each other.

So, with this very talented partnership in place; Violet, Chris and Suzanne, have helped create my online shop which will be easy to navigate and provide all of you, my customers with the information required to make the most suitable shopping choices.

I look forward to this new online experience and will try my best to make your shopping experience a satisfying one.
